Sneek Peek into my Village - Uttarakhand

This will serve as an introduction to the place I call my own, to which I go back when I feel down and need help. The place with a thousand mysteries and a million blessings. A place with enviable locales and awe inspiring sceneries. This is Pullhindola, in the frontier district of Champawat in the Devbhumi of Uttarakhand.

It takes approximately 11 hours by car to reach this place from Delhi and the distance you need to travel is 475 kms. The road is on flatlands till Tanakpur and the last 104 kms are hill roads. The road leads you to Lohaghat on the Tanakpur-Tawaghat road of Border Roads Organization from where you take a detour and 16 kms of driving on district road leads you to Pullhindola. The hamlet which houses a small hospital, a branch of State Bank of India and an Inter-College !!! Shown alongside is a diagram of the Tanakpur-Tawaghat route.

You can have a look at an aerial view of Pullhindola, notice how it sits like a saddle at an elevation of approximately 2000 metres (6500 feet) above sea-level.

About 30 kms from Pullhindola is the scenic sangam of the rivers Saryu and Mahakali at Pancheshwar. The Mahakali serves as the natural boundary between India and Nepal and is the largest river in Kumaon. It is known as Sarada at Tanakpur and Ghaghara further downstream. Come winters and Pullhindola offers you some of the most spectacular views of the Himalayan peaks. On a clear day you can see a panoramic view of about 300 kms of Himalayas from Garhwal to Western Nepal.

The Mayawati Ashram is at a distance of 9 kms from Lohaghat and is located in exquisite surroundings with ultimate peace and serenity. This is the Advaita Ashram and houses a free charitable hospital ......................
